Cervical Cytology
We strongly recommend that women between the ages of 25 and 64 years have regular cervical smears. We currently use a national recall system. A letter notifying you that it is time for you to book a smear test will be sent to you. If you do not respond to the first offer our normal practice is to send two further reminders. You can have a smear taken by a nurse or doctor at the surgery. The test will take two or three minutes and needs to be performed every 3 - 5 years. You will receive a letter 4 - 6 weeks after your test notifying you of the results.
